UConn-AAUP Update: April 3, 2023

In this Issue: Performance Review written summary

The “written summary” provided to a faculty member by their department head after their annual meeting is to remain in the department and should not be forwarded to the Dean’s office. The collective bargaining agreement that was made between the parties at the bargaining table does not include any statement that a “satisfactory” or “unsatisfactory” performance review result is sent to the Dean’s office. These are internal department documents only. Please notify UConn-AAUP if you are being told differently.

Article 30.5 B. 3. Performance Review is below for reference:

  1. Each year, the academic unit head shall provide a written summary to the faculty member. At a minimum, the summary shall:
  2. State the faculty member’s anticipated workload for the next academic year;
  3. Provide formative feedback in the performance review commenting upon their performance in each area of assigned duties (research, teaching, service, extension, and/or clinical work).
  4. Conclude whether the faculty member’s performance is satisfactory or unsatisfactory.

In Solidarity,

Jeffrey O. G. Ogbar
