SEBAC Update

Protecting Higher Education funding is a key priority for SEBAC and our colleagues across our state. Along with meeting with legislative leaders throughout the fall to talk with them about our work, we are also supporting statewide efforts to highlight the need for fully funding higher education.  Due to severe underfunding and understaffing levels, our state system is at a critical juncture.  Be part of our united message and come support the statewide effort in funding our future. Join us at the below events!

Tuesday, September 26th, 12:00 noon: Legislative leaders will be at the Capitol for a special session to vote on the date of the Presidential Primary.  Join other leaders and members at 12:00 to highlight and remind our leaders that it is their responsibility to protect Connecticut’s future by funding and investing in our public higher education system.

Thursday, October 12 beginning at 5:00PM Rally: Outside the Connecticut State Capitol Building, located at 210 Capitol Avenue in Hartford (plenty of metered, on-street parking available in the area)

Frustrations Build with Parking

Frustrated with parking on the Storrs Campus, UConn-AAUP, UCPEA and GEU sent a letter to President Maric; Facility responds with no action.

NEW Modified Assignment Policy

UConn-AAUP has been working with the Labor Relations on a policy that will allow bargaining unit members to adjust their assignment “to respond to anticipated or unanticipated life events or situations.”  Modified assignments might involve either 1) full-time work with a flexible schedule, modified work duties, remote work, and/or other arrangements as agreed upon or approved or 2) a combination of working less than full-time (VSPR), paid leave and/or leave without pay (FMLA/FMLG), as appropriate. Qualifying life events might include returning from an approved medical leave after the birth of a child or adoption of a child, short-term care for the bargaining unit member or an immediate family member on a part-time basis following the completion of an approved personal or FMLA leave, or bereavement following the death of an immediate family member or other emergency circumstances. More information will be provided in the near future.

Legislative “In-District” Meetings

UConn-AAUP will be continuing to meet with our elected legislative leaders this fall as we look to find common interests and ways to build professional relationships. Over the next week or two, we will be contacting members in selected legislative districts asking for participation in these meetings. We found these meetings very successful last year and we hope to have members willing to spend a few minutes with their elected leaders as we prepare for the shortened legislative session.
