Member Legislative Liaisons

The UConn-AAUP is looking to form a deeper relationship with State of Connecticut legislators that go beyond the use of a union lobbyist. The Member Legislative Liaison Program intends to augment the UConn-AAUP legislative presence in Hartford by establishing a constituency-based presence from faculty members home district.

The program’s goal is to develop relationships between faculty members and their respective legislators in order to present local opinion on key legislation that impacts UConn, faculty rights, collective bargaining, and higher education.

We are looking for faculty members to establish a personal relationship with their Representative and/or their Senator.  We are planning to link up members with legislators from key legislative committees; Appropriations, Higher Education, and Labor/Public Employees, as well as the leadership in the House and Senate.

Member Liaisons would be tasked with setting up an initial one on one meeting with the legislator to introduce themselves. Liaisons would then contact their legislator by phone, email, or face-to-face to discuss impacts of legislation, identified by the UConn-AAUP as helpful or harmful to UConn faculty.

If you are interested please fill out the form below and a UConn-AAUP Representative will be in touch regarding next steps.

The next legislative session does not begin until January 2017 but we want to identify liaisons soon to build a base of members willing to do this important work.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
