Preparation for a New Collective Bargaining Agreement for Fall 2025As UConn-AAUP is a “member-based, member-led” organization, preparing for negotiations must include participation from its membership to determine potential improvements and identified limits or conflicts in the current contract. This requires the formation of subcommittees to look at current contract language and compare it with peer AAUP collective bargaining chapter contracts.

Therefore, we are looking for members to fill the following subcommittees. The subcommittees would determine a Chair for the committee and meet 3 or 4 times. A report would be developed and presented to the Contract Committee, who will draft the initial contract proposals. If accepted by the Executive Committee, those proposals would then be reviewed by the membership.
This is an extremely important part in the Chapter’s procedures for collective bargaining. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Here are the subcommittees we have used in the past:

  • Compensation
  • Equity
  • Benefits
  • Non-Tenure Track and Contingent Faculty
  • Faculty Governance
  • Workload (would also cover any post-tenure review)
  • Athletics

Please let us know if you are interested in joining a subcommittee by letting us know here

Legislative Action: S.B. 394 Establishing an Exemption from Disclosure For Certain Higher Education Records Pertaining to Teaching or Research Under the Freedom of Information Act

As mentioned in earlier UConn-AAUP Updates, faculty continue to experience harassment and interference in their research, scholarship, and teaching. Individuals, and even specific organizations, use public records requests as weapons with their only intent to threaten or chill faculty from their right to academic freedom and unfettered reporting of research. This Bill would give the University the necessary tools to prevent this harassment from occurring at the local level and move it to the FOIA Commission. If you know of anyone receiving threatening FOIA requests or emails, please notify the AAUP as soon as possible.
