UConn-AAUP Executive Committee Slate: Call for Additional Nominees:
The 2025-2026 UConn-AAUP Executive Committee Slate has changed. Two nominees had to remove their names from the ballot due to professional obligations and now there are two openings on the slate for next year:
- President
- Member-at-large seat
The chapter is calling for further nominations, or self-nominations for these two positions. Please submit nominations/self-nominations to jcurtisgray@uconnaaup.org by this Friday, March 13th at 5pm.
The UConn-AAUP Chapter elections will begin on Tuesday; April 1st and end on Tuesday, April 15th.

UConn-AAUP Outstanding Contribution Award:
The UConn-AAUP Chapter is pleased to once again solicit nominations for the Outstanding Contribution Award to honor a former or current UConn-AAUP member who has provided exceptional leadership and service to the members of the chapter.
The award, presented in the form of a certificate of recognition and a memorial located on one of the campuses or UConn-AAUP property, is given at the Annual Spring meeting in April.
Nominations should be submitted prior to April 4, 2025, in the form of a supporting letter which should address the following criteria:
- Demonstration of the candidate’s sustained commitment and service to the chapter.
- Demonstrated leadership on behalf of the members of the chapter.
- Recognized accomplishments made to the chapter attributed to the candidate.
This is a great way to honor those that have demonstrated the values vital to protecting the professoriate. If you know of a colleague who has set themselves apart in sustained service to the chapter, please send your recommendation to the UConn-AAUP office.

National AAUP-Travel Alert:
On March 6, 2025 AAUP National sent out the following notice regarding Travel
Recent news reports suggest that the Trump Administration may implement a new travel ban (primarily targeted at Muslim-majority countries, but possibly also including Venezuela and Haiti) as early as next week.
If you are currently living or traveling in a country that might find itself on this list, we believe it is prudent for you to make plans to return to the United States as soon as possible. US citizens have the right to re-entry, but the vetting process may be extreme and chaotic. If you reside in the US but are a national of Afghanistan, Haiti, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Palestine/Gaza, Pakistan, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela, or Yemen, we believe you should consider not leaving the US. If travel abroad is necessary, please be in touch with an immigration attorney prior to leaving the US.
While we do not know if such a travel ban will be implemented, when it may be implemented, or what countries will be included on the list, the administration’s preference for sudden decision making compels us to send this message.

Save the Date! Excellence Awards Ceremony:
We are happy to announce a return to an in-person presentation of our Annual Excellence Award Recipients. The Ceremony is planned for Monday, April 7, at 9:00am, at the Capitol Building in Hartford, Room 310. We hope you will join us in recognizing our 2025 Recipients.
The recognition of faculty teaching, research, and service excellence through UConn-AAUP awards began in 1997. The intention of the awards is to showcase Academic Excellence at UConn.
SEBAC Survey Reminder
The 2017 SEBAC Agreement is set to expire on June 30, 2027. The SEBAC Agreement is our Pension and Healthcare Agreement which is negotiated by a coalition of state employee unions called the State Employee Bargaining Agent Coalition (SEBAC). SEBAC and the Lamont Administration have begun informal discussions with a goal of reaching a successor agreement prior to the expiration. As we begin these discussions with the State, it is vital that your voice is heard.
Please take a few minutes to complete this survey by March 14th, 2025 and let us know what is important to you for our healthcare and pension agreement.
In addition to covering pension, healthcare, and retiree health benefits, the SEBAC Agreement covers other matters such as placement and training rights, telework, objective job evaluation (“OJE”), and rights to use sick days to pay for family medical leave.
As you fill out the survey, please keep in mind that this is about benefits related to the SEBAC Agreement, and NOT our union’s collective bargaining agreement which we are currently negotiating.
