Last Call and Thank You!!: UConn-AAUP Negotiations Member Participation

At the end of last semester, the chapter released a membership survey to begin seeking your guidance for negotiations. Throughout the summer, groups of members have met in subcommittees to craft bargaining proposals, researching, and discussing key topics and concerns. Over the past month, more specific issue surveys and several listening sessions were organized for members to provide their workplace concerns. Over 170 members engaged recent member meetings on negotiations. The UConn-AAUP Executive Committee and Negotiating Team would like to thank our members for their participation in bringing suggestions forward. Any final proposals for contract priorities should be emailed directly to michaelbailey@uconnaaup-org.us.stackstaging.com or davidamdur@uconnaaup-org.us.stackstaging.com

Grievance Filed – Fitness for Duty Policy

UConn-AAUP has filed a grievance in response to a new “Fitness for Duty” policy released on September 8, 2024 with an effective date of August 21, 2024. The UConn-AAUP contract clearly states that “any changes to policy or procedures impacting mandatory subjects of bargaining may be changed only upon agreement of the Board of Trustees and the UConn-AAUP.” The union has informed Labor Relations that until the contract language is satisfied, this policy does not apply to UConn-AAUP bargaining unit members. We will keep you updated on the progress of this grievance and the policy.

October 2, 2024 – UConn-AAUP Picnic and Contract Campaign Kick-off!!!

On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, from 3:00-6:00pm the union is hosting a picnic and contract campaign kick-off at the UConn-AAUP office. Join us for a family-friendly event with plenty of fall-themed food and drink, including apples & honey to celebrate Rosh Hashanah. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the union, get to know fellow union members and leaders, and help us kickoff our contract campaign with an afternoon of camaraderie! There will also be lawn games (anyone else want to learn Bocce?) & I have heard that we may potentially have a trivia game. Join us!  You can us know you are joining us here!!!!

Adjunct Faculty Parking Concerns

The collective bargaining agreement dictates the rate for parking that adjunct faculty are to be charged yearly.  The rate increase for AY 2024-25 was 4.25%.  We heard from several members that they were charged more than this rate.  In following up with parking services we learned that there was a coding issue, and they are working to correct it.  Please call parking services directly if you are facing this problem.  Should it not be corrected, do not hesitate to contact the AAUP office directly.
