UCONN-AAUP EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE STATEMENT
IN SOLIDARITY WITH UCONN STUDENTS IN DEFENSE OF IMMIGRANT COMMUNITIES
Tomorrow morning at 9am, a coalition of student groups named the UConn Students in Defense of Immigrant Communities will be at the Board of Trustees meeting to urge UConn to take strong action to protect our community from the abuses of federal immigration authorities on our campus . You can sign the student petition here.
The UConn-AAUP Executive Committee supports the students and their calls for the administration to refuse access to student information by federal immigration authorities, to establish a clear designation of public and non-public university spaces, to deny access to federal immigration enforcement agencies without a judicial warrant, and to establish a legal fund for university community members along the lines that UConn-AAUP has established.
We would also urge the administration to communicate and make public any action or preparedness plans that they develop or have already developed in regard to immigration enforcement on campus.
We encourage members to attend the BOT meeting tomorrow in a show of solidarity for the students. A member of the UConn-AAUP Executive Committee will also be speaking during public comment in support of the students and advocating for other issues facing our chapter.
